Annie Heisey
Annie Heisey is an artist and educator living and working in her native Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where her studio practice is shaped by an ongoing curiosity about how we perceive and interpret the world around us.
Her paintings use the act of painting itself as both subject and metaphor. Through layered surfaces that simultaneously build depth and collapse it, Annie creates spaces that feel immersive yet unstable—images that quietly reveal themselves as constructions, as illusions. In doing so, her work invites viewers to question not only what they are seeing on the canvas, but how they understand reality beyond it.
Annie’s work has been exhibited nationally in galleries and institutions including the Boston Center for the Arts, Site:Brooklyn Gallery in Brooklyn, New York, and the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. Her paintings are held in the collections of Clatsop Community College in Astoria, Oregon, and Arthur S. Goldberg.
Through subtle shifts in surface, space, and perception, Annie Heisey’s paintings ask viewers to slow down and consider the fragile line between what feels solid and what is ultimately constructed—both in art and in everyday experience.
