Christopher Boring
hris Boring’s paintings begin with a simple, familiar image: the paper airplane. From there, they unfold into quiet meditations on memory, time, and the stories we tell ourselves about where we come from and where we are going. What might first appear playful or nostalgic gradually reveals deeper emotional weight, shaped by personal reflection and the passing of years.
His earliest plane paintings carried a sense of optimism—small symbols of hope and forward motion, pointed toward the idea of a brighter future. Over time, the imagery has grown more inward. Works such as Affirmation function almost like private letters, reminding the artist of his roots, his values, and the evolving nature of self-identity. In the Entangled series, that reflection turns outward, as planes are bound and restrained, mirroring his response to the tension and uncertainty of the contemporary political landscape.
Based in Pittsburgh, Chris has exhibited widely throughout the region, with shows at institutions and galleries including the Erie Art Museum, the State Museum of Pennsylvania, the Lynchburg Center of the Arts, Zynka Gallery, and Colo Colo Gallery. Together, his body of work traces a path from innocence to complexity—using a single, humble form to explore how memory, legacy, and time quietly reshape who we are.
