Kyle Houser’s career unfolds at the intersection of making, teaching, and building spaces where art can thrive. Based in Pittsburgh, he has spent decades shaping creative communities as both an artist and an arts administrator, moving fluidly between the studio, the classroom, and leadership roles within major cultural institutions.

As an educator, Kyle’s path has taken him through public, private, international, and higher education settings. Along the way, he has served as Studio Manager for the School of Art at Chautauqua Institution in New York, directed the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts and Media, and spent four years as Gallery Director at Indiana University of Pennsylvania while teaching a wide range of courses. He is also a frequent visiting artist and guest lecturer, sharing his experience with universities and arts organizations across Pennsylvania, New York, North Carolina, and Texas.

Running parallel to this work is a deeply committed studio practice. Since the mid-1990s, Kyle’s ceramic work has been exhibited and sold through galleries, exhibitions, festivals, and touring shows. In recent years, his practice has expanded to include mixed-media painting and drawing, reflecting an ongoing curiosity and willingness to evolve. His work is held in private and public collections throughout the United States and internationally, including in Australia and Croatia.

Kyle earned his Bachelor of Science with an emphasis in Studio Arts from Florida State University and his Master of Fine Arts from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Together, his roles as artist, educator, and advocate for the arts form a career defined by long-term dedication to creative growth—his own and that of the communities he continues to support.
