Mark Poss creates atmospheric paintings that exist somewhere between observation and imagination. Drawing inspiration from the traditions of landscape painting while allowing room for experimentation and abstraction, he builds environments that feel familiar yet impossible to place. Some emerge from specific locations, while others are composites of memory, experience, and invention—landscapes shaped as much by feeling as by geography.

Influenced by artists such as George Inness, Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, and 17th-century Dutch landscape painters, Poss explores the emotional power of place rather than its exact description. Soft transitions, layered surfaces, and subtle shifts in light create spaces that encourage reflection, inviting viewers to linger in moments of quiet uncertainty. Slightly removed from the real world, his paintings leave room for wonder, allowing each viewer to bring their own memories and experiences into the work.

Poss earned a degree in Finance with a minor in Art History from the University of Texas at Austin and pursued graduate studies in Art History with an emphasis on landscape painting. In addition to his studio practice, he serves as Director of Promotional Design at Fortessa, where his deep understanding of visual communication continues to inform his artistic work.
